Engineering in the UK

Courses

Universities in the UK have long-established engineering departments that offer a full range of disciplines.

(Offered by UCL)

Special Fields

Do note that even if your interests lay outside of these broad fields, there would certainly be professors working on your area of interest and you may work with them once you're there.

To take Energy as an example, Imperial doesn't have an Engineering course with a focus on Energy, but it has an Energy Research Group. Durham has a New & Renewable Energy Group (NAREG). Cambridge has an Energy & the Environment track in the third year.

Some schools offer engineering courses with 'add-on's, giving you some flexibility and diversity outside of core coursework. But with that said, US schools offer even more flexibility and possibilities in terms of how you wish to make of your engineering education too.

Some examples from Imperial College London:

Biochemistry with Management (BSc)

Biochemistry with a Year in Industry / Research (BSc)

Biochemistry with Research Abroad (BSc)

Biology with Spanish for Science (BSc)

Aeronautical Engineering with a Year Abroad (MEng)

(I like what they're called, good university guides. That's what they do, guide you to find what's right for you :)
